Kayaking, oneprayer, and the Fourth

  • I got to go kayakinglast weekend with two of my favorite people in the whole wide world.  My Pastor at Lifechurch.tv, HNV, Andrew, and my buddy Aaron that is visiting from Vancouver.  We decided to make it an overnight-er, and deemed that kayaking sounds much more manly than canoes.  We decided to go for a 20 mile section of the Harpeth River.  The plan was to kayak down about half way, and then spend the night on the riverbank, making it the rest of the way in the morning.  Unfortunately our trip was cut short by injury.  Andrew and Aaron’s kayaks collided, leaving Andrew with sorely bruised ribs.  We evacuated him at the closest take-out point, luckily nothing broken.  Insult to injury all his gear was soaked, so was Aaron’s camera and phone.  Wow, what a trip.   I think we’ll need to go back and conquer that section again. 😉
  • Oneprayercontinues to blow me away.  Ed Young brought the message this week as only he can.  Its been neat to read around the blogosphere of the unifying efforts going on.  Prayer and fasting goes a long ways.  It’s drawn me into a closer walk with Him….God is good…
  • We had over 100 people at Switch last week, wow.  10 got saved, including 2 parents!!
  • The Fourth of July is coming quickly.  I love fireworks and BBQ on the grill.  Looks like we’ll be hosting friends from Chattanooga and Vancouver that day.  Sweet…   Don’t forget to check out www.shoutable.com for downloadable “4th” backgrounds, videos, and countdowns.

Projection phones are coming….

  • I’m trying to wrap my brain around how this could be used for ministry.  Check out more info on this stuff HERE!!
  • Here are some potentials:
  • Mobility needed on Mission Trips.  Show the Jesus Film with the ease of this thing.
  • Portability for trips when airlines charge you $50 for an extra bag.. yikes…
  • Spontaneously show someone the four spiritual laws, on the fly….(a stretch, but it could happen)
  • How about improv meetings when you’ve got to show stats, quickly.
  • I’m thinking MediaShout Mobile Edition, give me a remote, and i’m good to go.  (For you iphone users, how about pro-presenter mobile?)

Ok, there is my list, can you think of some apps for this thing???

Friday Ramblings

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:02 am by charlesshyblosky

  • Don’t you just love bullet-points, i do  🙂
  • My in-laws are in town from Oklahoma, we’re taking them to the Grand Ole’ Opry tonight.  Good times.  I just love it when grandparents spoil their grandkids.   (more sleep for me, too)
  • Next weekend, i’m going to get lost in the woods for 3 days.   Jesus sought solitude in the mountains, and so should we.  A buddy of mine from Vancouver, Aaron, is in town for a wedding, and is coming with me.  Wanta go?
  • One prayer is going amazingly.  This is so “ground floor”, i’m sure stuff like this will happen again.
  • Looks like Marc and I are  going to the First game of the season, Tennessee versus UAB.  Only 91 81days left till College Football time.   🙂   You gotta love it here in the Fall.
  • After Father’s Day, comes the 4th of July, Start planning your Patriotic services now… 🙂   Happy Father’s day, Dad, if you read this.
  • Some of you asked about last week, if it was the best week ever…It was close….

Where it all began…..

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:00 am by charlesshyblosky

I’ve been checking out a really fun blog, called, “Stuff Christians Like“, by Prodigal John

He has an ongoing thread of things that are stereotypical of Christians.   I found this one particularly funny and very true in a lot of churches.  Leave me a comment if you know a church like this one below….:)

Here is a clip of a Media-related post of his,

#273. Powerpointing for the Lord.

Remember that scene in the book of Matthew when Jesus is just starting his ministry and he turns to one of his disciples and says, “What version of PowerPoint are you guys using? What? You’ve never heard of PowerPoint? Oh that’s right, it won’t be invented for a while yet. Hmmm, I’ll just have to use parables to communicate then. OK, let’s do this thing.”

What’s that you say? That didn’t happen? Maybe not, but sometimes when I see the deep, all consuming passion some pastors have for the presentation software PowerPoint, I almost think God ordained its use in church.

I blame corporations, because it definitely is one of those things that migrated from businesses and has now found a new home in church services. But like anything else, when it comes to using PowerPoint in a sermon, there are some important things we all need to remember:

1. Don’t do the “letters slide in one at a time” trick.
I’m happy you figured out that application. You probably feel like I did when I discovered how to use the crop tool in Photoshop. I cropped every photo I owned and may or may not have built a small set for my GI Joe Storm Shadow action figure (it’s not a doll) and registered a now defunct site called word ninja for my portfolio. I went over board and so are you. Please, don’t slide in each letter one by one. Few things are as time consuming as watching O….L…..D…….T…..E……S….T…….A…..M…..E….N…….T moonwalk onto the slide.

To read the rest of his blog, go give him a “shout out” over at his place, http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/2008/06/273-powerpointing-for-lord.html

Yesterday is History, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift, that is why they call it “The Present”.. 🙂  Quote from E. Roosevelt

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:5-7 NAS

Always go to work with this in mind:  Today has the potential to BE the BEST DAY EVER!!!  Choose your attitude wisely.

I did get my Federal Government Stimulus Check today.  WHoohoo…

Here is to the beginning, of what could be, the best week ever.  Ask me next week how it turned out… 😉
